Dursun Yıldız Director of Hydropolitics Academy: We are only a part of the nature not it’s master
12 July 2019
The Başkent Newspaper made an interview with Dursun Yıldız in 12 July 2019.In some part of the interview He stated that;
“Especially since the middle of the 20th century, the world has been turned into a “consumption frenzy world.This has been created in every field of daily life . When I look at this world, I see that we need a radical thought revolution in order to protect our future.
I see that we are captive of consumption and technology. In fact, human beings took control of evolution as a result of the rapid technological revolution, but took great risks. We started to see ourselves as the master of nature. We are only a part of nature, not the master. We are surrounded by nature's biodiversity. If we rely on technological developments and disrupt the natural cycle and natural balance mechanisms of nature, we will have a great disappointment. So we need to change some of our thinking patterns and shift paradigms quickly. These new patterns of thought must cover everything from saving oceans, water, soil to our future. Otherwise, it is stated by many scientists that it would be difficult for human beings to reach the 22nd century with a healthy social structure.”
“ I also discussed this issue in my “Water Security 2050” book. I am concerned that these developments in the world can create spiral cycles that feeds itself. In this case, the cycle fed from unbalanced situation, becomes stronger. Here begins a difficult huge cycle to break. According to scientists, the fastest of the feedback mechanisms is the ocean currents and the most frightening is the melting of the glaciers. In fact, the greatest risk that can arise with this way of life is that the spiral cycles become irreversible. Let me give you an example of this recently published in the Guardian, a microbiological analysis report on more than 70 rivers of the world. According to the report, high level antibiotic contamination was observed in river flows . This means environmental pollution as well as the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.Because of rapid development of this bacteria, it is estimated that 300 million people will die till 2050. As a result, the world we leave to next generation will be a ecologically unbalanced,technologically dirty and socially very risky world unless our paradigm shift.”
